FrameFit is the ultimate gap remediation for fire doors.

It is a NEW & UNIQUE fully tested product that fits to door frames and the bottom of the existing door leafs to reduce gap sizes to meet current fire door regulations.

Fire Door Inspectors will report a fire door as ‘Non-Compliant’ with gaps of over 4mm between the frame and leaf. On the bottom of a fire door, gaps of over 8mm (Fire Only Door) and gaps of over 3mm (Fire & Smoke Doors) will also be reported as ‘Non-Compliant.’

Until now, the only remedy for excessive gaps was to replace the fire door with a new one.

Key Benefits:

  • Ensures Compliance – FrameFit effectively brings non-compliant doors back to compliance.
  • Easy Install – FrameFit is quicker, easier and cleaner to install than a new doorset, without any disruption.
  • Cost-Effective – The system helps avoid the cost of replacing doors and aids budget management over time.
  • More Sustainable – Less demand for timber doorsets helps keep trees in the ground.

FrameFit FAQs:

What is FrameFit?

A new Patented solution to a major problem with existing FD30 and FD60 Fire Doors. Many existing doors have gaps above the 3mm-4mm required to provide effective fire and smoke compartmentalisation see BWF website for for guidance. When fitted correctly, the system can fill door frame gaps up to 15mm. It has been extensively tested in multiple situations and has proved highly effective, the test evidence is available.

Is there a FrameFit product to reduce gaps at the bottom of the door?

Yes, we are offering a fully tested solution which will fit to the base of FD30 and FD60 doors which is extremely effective at fire and smoke stopping. This has been tested up to a 25mm gap and can be used on its own to fill door base gaps.

How do I use FrameFit?

This page features a number of downloads taking you through the application process in detail and ensuring you have the tools that you need. You can find these further down the page.

How do I fit the Bottom Doorseal?

Fitting instructions for the Bottom Doorseal are also included in the downloads below.

Is FrameFit easy to fit?

The system is designed with ease of use in mind and can be applied within 10% of the time it would ordinarily take to fit a new fire door. FrameFit comes on a roll and is easily cut to size and applied with minimal tools required. Download the toolkit guide.

Is FrameFit easy to cut?

Yes, FrameFit is easy to cut if you are using the correct equipment.  We would recommend the use of Miter Cutter to ensure a safe and clean cut, these are available via our partners. These can also be used to cut FrameFit to angles if required. We would not recommend the use of Stanley/box knife cutters as they present a risk to the user if the blade slips. They are recommended for use with detailed cutting only but nothing else.

Do I need to be trained to fit the system?

The system doesn’t require specialist training to fit, however it is recommended to be fitted by contractors experienced in fitting and remediating fire doors. If you require help finding a contractor to fit FrameFit for you, please get in touch with our team and we will put you in touch with those who are known to us.

Is FrameFit available in different colours?

At launch we will be offering FrameFit in white. These will be available in FD30 and FD60 and 1.5mm, 3mm and 5mm depths with 5m lengths. Other colours are available, including wood grains, but will need to ordered and manufactured separately. Please contact our team to discuss your requirements.

Can FrameFit be painted different colours?

Yes, you can paint FrameFit but you will need to use a solvent based paint and not water based.

Will the system work with digital recording or building information management systems?

Yes, the system can be used in conjunction with a variety of Digital Tracking Solutions. You will need to contact the company relevant to your requirements to understand how your installation of FrameFit will enable Digital Tracking.

How does it work with existing strike plates?

You can fit FrameFit behind the strike plate and re-attach the strike plate over the FrameFit. You will need to carefully measure the gaps and use the correct depth of FrameFit. You will also need to cut out the void where the door latch engages to ensure the door closes correctly.

Can I use FrameFit on door frames that have different sized gaps or are warped?

Yes. You can use the 1.5mm, 3mm and 5mm options to fill gaps around doors that are different sizes. You will need to carefully measure the different sizes and then cut the FrameFit to the correct length. For example a door with a 10mm gap problem at the top and a 7mm gap bottom should use 2 x 5mm with 2 x 3mm and 1 x 1.5m.

What sort of door frames can the system be used with?

The system can be used on Hardwood, Softwood and MDF frames. Please see the available test evidence.

Does FrameFit have an intumescent and smoke seal solution?

Yes, the High Energy (HE) variant of FrameFit has both a smoke seal and intumescent built in. This should be used where there is an existing intumescent or smoke seal in the door frame. You will not need to the HE variant if the Intumescent is in the door.

Can I use a smoke seal with the system?

Yes, we offer smoke seals that work extremely well with the system. The smoke seal is 1.5mm thick so will need to adjust your FrameFit measurements to include the smoke seal. So for a 12mm gap in a door which requires a smoke seal you will need a 1 x 5mm and 2 x 1.5mm FrameFit and a 1.5mm smoke seal cut to the correct lengths to close a 9mm gap.

Is FrameFit environmentally friendly?

Yes, it is made of up to 40% recycled plastics, it comes in a recyclable box and we recommend use with the Mitre Cutter and Gap Checker which are both reusable. The system also negates the need to scrap existing doors removing the need to landfill and manufacture new doors from forests.

Does the system have an expiration date?

No, it doesn’t have an expiry date.
