Brick & Block is the one of the most traditional of all construction methods for infill or load-bearing structures. It creates a cavity wall which helps to protect the internal structure from the effects of the weather.

Increasingly, the thermal performance of cavity wall constructions is being improved by wider cavities and the incorporation of more insulation.

PAL supplies a range of illbruck products which effectively seal the perimeter of window installations fitted within these details with multi-purpose joint sealing tapes, sealants and membranes. illbruck products work in conjunction with other elements of the window opening such as proprietary cavity closers and different types of cill details.

illbruck TP600 Compriband 600 – BBA Approved

TP600 is an impregnated joint sealing tape for use in a wide variety of movement joints including window perimeter seals and other applications.

TP600 is not suitable for locations where standing water or a head of water is likely to occur, eg under a window fixed on a flat topped sub-sill where the tape is not within 2-3 mm of the vertical face of the sub-sill. High temperatures accelerate tape expansion, while low temperatures delay this. At ambient temperatures above 20°C, the tape should be stored in a cool place on the construction site away from direct sunlight. A small fridge is ideal for this.

Remaining rolls in opened boxes should be maintained in a horizontal state and weighed down to prevent lateral expansion (telescoping) of the rolls. Whilst it is unnecessary to seal over the external face of the tape, the exposed edge can be plastered or painted over. The compatibility of sealants must be tested. In some cases, white sealants can be incompatible. The tape must not come into contact with chemicals containing solvents or aggressive chemicals.

Safety data sheet must be read and understood before use.

Product Benefits:

  • 15 year performance guarantee
  • Weather seal for wind-driven rain
  • Breathable – for vapour diffusion
  • Continually expands and contracts to accommodate movement whilst still sealing the joints
  • Thermal and acoustic insulation

Illbruck ME058 product image

illbruck ME508 Duo Membrane EW/F

ME508 is a non-woven fleece laminate with self-adhesive for optimum adhesion and vapour control. The combination of self-adhesives provide options for installing to the window frame edge (W) or face (E), providing air and weather tightness. Part of the intelligent membrane range, ME508 also benefits from humidity variable vapour permeability.

Usage/Purpose:

For Interior Use: Part of illbruck’s intelligent membrane range, ME508 provides excellent air tightness to Passivhaus standards whilst allowing water vapour to diffuse out to the exterior of the building, ensuring no moisture build up which can lead to mould and mildew. Strong and reliable self-adhesive, allowing bonding to virtually any substrate (eg masonry, concrete, PVC, metal, wood, and all usual insulation materials (EPS, XPS, PUR rigid foam), making application fast and simple. The combination of self-adhesives provide options for installing to the window frame edge (W) or face (E), providing air and weather tightness. For best results, should be used as part of the illbruck i3 window sealing system.

Product Benefits:

  • Quick and easy application with split release liner
  • Highly flexible fleece
  • Weather tight
  • Suitable for retrofit
  • Initial repositioning possible, bond strength increases over time
  • Airtight and vapour tight
  • Allows over-plastering without cracking.

Safety data sheet must be read and understood before use.

illbruck ME501 VV Duo Window Membrane HD

ME501 VV is a high strength, tear resistant membrane made from polyethylene copolymer film with non-woven fabric and self-adhesive films for reliable and user-friendly application.

ME480 Butyl Tape BB

A membrane on a roll with fire classification B-s1, d0 to EN13501-1, composed of a laminate film with a layer of modified butyl rubber adhesive, aluminium foil finish and a siliconised release liner.

Usage/purpose:

ME480 has been specifically designed for construction applications where high fire retardent performance is required (e.g. tall buildings – Relevant Buildings >18 m high).Provides permanent watertightness, air tightness, compartmentalisation and for repairs of vapour-impermeable joints and seals in construction applications.Bonds with most normal building materials such as glass, steel, concrete, stone, wood and aluminium.

Safety data sheet must be read and understood before use.

Product Benefits:

  • Reaction to fire – EN13501-1: Class B-s1, d0 (Complies with ADB requirements)
  • Both the aluminium foil and the butyl adhesive layer are UV-resistant
  • Adhesive layer remains flexible at high and extremely low temperatures
  • Non-staining
  • Adhesive layer does not dry out
  • Bonds to virtually all common substrates
  • Very high vapour resistance, including water and airtightness

illbruck ME220 VV EPDM Membrane

ME220 VV is an EPDM-based membrane used for sealing interfaces to provide airtight or weather tight seals. It is suitable for wide ranging application details. The material does not contain any solvents which could later migrate into adjacent surfaces.

FM330 Pro Foam Air Seal

FM330 is ideal for use as an air tight gap filler for general construction joints. It is suitable for applications such as sealing floor to wall and wall to ceiling joints and pipe & service penetrations. The movement accommodation factor (MAF) of 35% ensures that the integrity of the seal is maintained.

Product Benefits:

  • A high performance PU foam with excellent acoustic and airtight performance
  • Airtight formulation – tested to ISO 6589
  • Acoustic dampening – up to 60 dB joint insulation index
  • Elastic performance – up to 35% movement accommodation ensures integrity of the seal in the event of movement
  • Sub-zero formulation – can still be used at temperatures as low as -3?C

SP525 product image

SP525 Frame and Facade Sealant

SP525 is a low modulus sealant and adhesive formulated using advanced CPG UK SP polymer technology. It has high movement capability, excellent primerless adhesion to many substrates and long-term performance.

Usage/purpose:

SP525 is ideal for sealing joints in façades, rainscreens and curtain walls, perimeter joints around windows, doors and rooflights, and high movement joints (e.g. modular building). It is also used for the bonding of ME500 & ME501 Intelligent Window Membranes. SP525 will enhance the acoustic performance of a joint, providing up to 61 dB sound reduction.

Contact with bituminous or tar containing surfaces can lead to discolouring. Not suitable for bonding to polyethylene, silicone, butyl rubber, neoprene or EPDM. Not suitable for areas permanently immersed in water. CPG UK provide a service for testing compatibility of our adhesives/sealants with 3rd party materials and would advise that our representative is made aware of this requirement in order to organise appropriate samples and to instigate the required testing (comprehensive testing takes up to 4 weeks). * Whilst CPG UK have not experienced any complaints due to migratory staining, prior tests on natural stone and decorative concrete are recommended. FA870 and FA880 are alternative sealants safe for use on natural stone. When bonding to copper or brass, please consult CPG UK technical services for priming details.

Safety data sheet must be read and understood before use.
