When selecting façade building protection solutions for projects across the UK – contractors should take extra precautions to ensure that the correct systems are selected and in line with current building regulations.
illbruck, a true product manufacturer, is delighted to offer their new a range of membranes which exceed current building regulations suitable for projects across the UK. Available via PAL, all of their products and systems offered below are tested, fully compatible and when installed in line with installation guidance are supported by a full product warranty.
We have Class-A and Class-B membranes available, depending on the needs of your project.
In the UK, BS EN 13501-1, has become the standard reference in the Building Regulations for classifying the minimum reaction to fire performance for all building materials used in the external envelope of a building.
For a relevant building in England and Wales, the current Building Regulation requires that the materials which become part of an external wall area are Euroclass A2-s1, d0 or A1.
As the building façade plays a critical function within the design of a building, it is always the recommendation of illbruck that PAL offers a system which is compliant with UK Building Regulations.
Our range of FR membranes ensures that there is a suitable solution for all applications – all available to PAL from a single source supplier.

Under the new Building Regulations Approved Document B, membranes used in external wall construction above ground level must now achieve a minimum classification of Class B-s3, d0 according to EN 13501-1: Fire classification of construction products and building elements — Classification using test data from reaction to fire tests.
The European Reaction to Fire classification (Euroclass) system is the common EU standard for assessing the performance of building materials when subject to fire. The performance of all illbruck systems is determined by measuring a comprehensive set of characteristics, including ignitability, flame spread, heat release, smoke production and tendency for producing flaming droplets/particles.

illbruck FR Window & Door Sealing Membrane + Black SA (ME020) is a high-performance, self-adhesive membrane designed for long-lasting protection around windows and doors. Made from durable polyester, this Class B membrane is permanently UV-resistant, fully watertight, and airtight, providing a secure seal along the external perimeter of glazed units. It also effectively seals construction joints against air and water infiltration. Available in 25m rolls with widths ranging from 100mm to 350mm, it offers versatile coverage for a range of applications.
ME060 is a laminated, aluminium foil faced glass fibre reinforced, air and vapour control membrane with a reaction to fire classification of A2-s1, d0 to EN 13501-1.
ME060 is used as an air and vapour barrier on the interior side of lightweight steel and timber frame systems. ME060 has an enhanced reaction to fire classification and is highly suited to construction projects designated as ‘relevant buildings‘ as defined in Approved Document B.
Safety data sheet must be read and understood before use.
ME050 FR Breather Membrane (ALU) is a reflective breather membrane which is A2-s1, d0 in accordance with EN 13501-1 and water resistant to Class W1 in accordance with EN 13859-2. The membrane is supplied with integrated adhesive strips at the top and bottom of the roll, which are used to seal horizontal overlap joints without the requirement for an additional seal tape.
FR Breather Membrane (ALU) ME050 meets the fire performance requirements for membranes installed on “relevant and higher risk” building types as defined in Approved Document B of the Building Regulations for England and Wales.
Used as a full façade breather membrane on new build and refurbishment projects, ME050 is highly breathable, UV resistant, water resistant, air/weathertight, easy to cut and install making it suitable for application within high rise buildings, open claddings, timber and lightweight steel frame constructions, public buildings and off-site construction.
Safety data sheet must be read and understood before use.
ME055 FR Breather Membrane (White) is a non-combustible and highly vapour permeable breather membrane which is A1 in accordance to EN 13501-1 and water resistant to Class W2 in accordance with EN 13859-2. ME055 FR Breather Membrane (White) meets the fire performance requirements for membranes installed on “relevant and higher risk” building types as defined in Approved Document B of the Building Regulations for England and Wales.
Used as a full façade breather membrane on new build and refurbishment projects, ME055 is highly breathable, UV resistant to 3 months, water resistant, easy to cut and install. ME055 is suitable for application within high rise buildings, timber and light weight steel frame constructions, public buildings and off-site construction.
FR Window & Door Sealing Membrane (ME007) is a Class B permanently UV resistant, high strength polyester, airtight and fully watertight membrane used as a perimeter membrane seal to the external side of glazed units such as windows and doors. When correctly installed with illbruck FR Membrane Adhesive (SP025), it provides an air and fully watertight seal over the construction joint which remains breathable to enable any trapped incidental moisture or condensation to escape out through to the external side of the wall construction. It can also be used to seal and protect horizontal and vertical linear joints between sheathing boards and the main structure.
FR Window & Door Sealing Membrane (ME007) meets the fire performance requirements for membranes installed on “relevant and higher risk” building types as defined in Approved Document B of the Building Regulations for England and Wales.
It is available in 50 m rolls with a range of pre-cut slit widths from 60 mm to 400 mm wide and when installed over compatible substrates with a minimum Class A2-s1, d0 fire performance provides a fire Class B performance in accordance with EN 13501-1.
When tested for water resistance in accordance with EN 1928 with a 2 kPa head of water, FR Window & Door Sealing Membrane (ME007) achieves the criteria for Class W1 in accordance with EN 13859-2 and also remains watertight when tested over for an extended 24 hours test duration.
Illbruck’s FR Window & Door Sealing Membrane (ME007) should be bonded back to the frame and substrate using illbruck FR Membrane Adhesive (SP025) and can be used in combination with a compatible illbruck FR Breather Membrane to provide a full façade solution. When used together they form a continuous weather and airtight barrier around the full building envelope including structural openings.
It is important that FR Window & Door Sealing Membrane (ME007) is installed in the correct orientation with the smooth/coated side always facing outwards towards the external environment.
SP025 Fire Membrane Adhesive is chemically neutral and low odour during and after curing. The product is permanently elastic but with a high mechanical strength. SP025 shows a good resistance to UV, weather and ageing and is free from isocyanates and silicone. Suitable for bonding and sealing in construction applications. Façade sealant for external and internal use according to DIN EN 15651-1, Class 20HM. Tested with ME010 Façade UV & Fire membrane to EN 13501-1: Class B-s1, d0. Suitable for bonding illbruck intelligent membrane range (NOT EPDM)
